What do I bring?


How do I apply?

If you are a young man or woman in your junior year of high school and reside within Rotary District 5340 (San Diego County, Imperial County, and Blythe) you may apply for the District 5340 RYLA scholarship. To apply, please do the following.

  1. Complete a brief essay describing your best and worst leadership experience. Go to the online Student Application Form (you MUST apply online), fill out the required “Student Information” fields, attach your essay file, and click on “Submit” to email your pre-selection information to the RYLA Registrar.

  2. Print out the entire form that appears after you submit your online information, fill-in all additional information, and get all required signatures.

  3. Print your brief essay and attach the printed copy to your Student Application Form.

  4. Turn in your completed Student Application Form, with your essay attached, to a sponsoring Rotary Club representative or to your school's RYLA representative (counselor, teacher, or administrator) as soon as possible.

  5. A Sponsoring Rotary Club Representative will notify you of the time and place of your mandatory RYLA selection interview.

  6. Following your interview, applicants selected to attend RYLA and applicants selected as alternates will be notified in writing by their sponsoring Rotary Club of their selection status.

  7. If you are selected to attend RYLA, commitment for the entire three day event is mandatory. Go to the RYLA website at www.ryla5340.org and click on the “Students” link for additional information.

 

What do I bring?

A positive attitude and a sense of humor!

Sleeping bag or sheet and blankets (Dorms are heated) and a pillow. Camp beds have mattresses only.

Toiletries and other personal hygiene items – toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.

Prescription medication(s) – must be listed on your Application

bullet

Bath and hand towels.

bullet

Walking shoes, tennis shoes, or hiking boots only. Sandals or open toed shoes are not allowed.

Dress is casual – jeans, tee shirts and sweat shirts. Shorts are acceptable, but may not be desired when the weather turns cold (30's - 50's at night is expected).

Long pants are necessary. Don’t forget extra underwear and socks.

Jacket, gloves, and other warm clothes. There is a possibility that it will rain or snow so be prepared with warm clothes.

Lightweight flashlight – remember fresh batteries.

Phone with camera or digital camera.

bullet

Phone with alarm or travel alarm clock.

Please leave all electronic devices other than phones at home. Phones may only be used at designated “free” time or as allowed by the student's Facilitator. If they are used at any other time, then they may be confiscated and returned at an appropriate time.
